NeuroQuant® is a breakthrough medical device that can make quantitative MRI measurement a routine part of clinical practice. It brings sophisticated, accurate, and fully automated MRI post-processing capabilities to the physician's desktop.
This software provides neurologists, radiologists, and clinical researchers with a convenient and cost-effective means to quantify the volume of the hippocampus and other structures.
NeuroQuant® takes high-resolution 3D T1-weighted, sagittal, non-contrast-enhanced MRI scan from disk or auto-routed from a scanner or a PACS server as input and in a few minutes, with no user intervention, returns a new full-volume spatially corrected and anatomically labeled dataset along with two printable patient reports containing the absolute and relative volumes of the hippocampus, temporal horn, and other structures in DICOM compliant format.
NeuroQuant® has been cleared for marketing as a medical device by the US FDA [510(k) K061855]. Analysis performed with NeuroQuant® may be appropriate for billing under existing CPT code for 3D volumetric image post-processing (76377).
CorTechs has received SBIR funding from the US National Institute of Aging to evaluate use of NeuroQuant® to quantify atrophy in patients with neurodegenerative disease. Example application of NeuroQuant® to a sample of data from normal control subjects, patients with mild cognitive impairment, and patients with probably Alzheimer's disease who are participating in the NIH and pharma-industry cosponsored Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) trial can be seen here.
Note to FreeSurfer users: CorTechs Labs shares copyright ownership of FreeSurfer (http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/) with Massachusetts General Hospital. Like NeuroQuant®, Freesurfer performs automated segmentation and quantification of selected brain structures from MRI. However, FreeSurfer is not an FDA-cleared product and its End User License Agreement (EULA) expressly prohibits its use in clinical diagnosis. The EULA also prohibits FreeSurfer use by for-profit organizations or in research sponsored by such organizations. In contrast, NeuroQuant® is FDA-cleared for clinical use and is available to for-profit as well as nonprofit organizations.
